Black Women in Business Rock: In Conversation with Natel Allen, Telle Moi Nail Polish Founder

Welcome once again to Things We Love, we love having you here! Today we have the first in our series called 'Black Women in Business Rock' and today we are in conversation with the founder of independent nail polish brand Telle Moi.

Telle Moi is a cruelty-free, vegan nail polish brand based in London, UK and we are loving the brand! We had a chat with Natel Allen, the founder of the London-based brand and here is an outline of some of the things she had to say about her brand.

TWL: Natel, here is an unconventional question for you, please take each letter of your name and describe yourself as an entrepreneur for our readers.

Natel:

N: Natural

A: Ambitious

T: Tenacious

E: Expressive

L: Loyal

TWL: Are you currently running Telle Moi full-time?

Natel: I am currently working full-time at a University as an employer engagement  and I run Telle Moi after work.

TWL: Have you always known that you were going to be an entrepreneur?

Natel: I actually wanted to be a lawyer initially and studied Business with Law at university. I have always thought about running my own business but I had no idea what type of business I wanted to run. When I finished university, I went into property for a while, I had a property blog. I have also always been interested in sales and I would sell items on eBay and friends and family would ask me to help them list their old items on eBay too.

I didn't plan to have a nail polish brand, it just happened as a result of a gap in the market that I identified.

TWL: How did you learn how to make nail polish?

Natel: I did a lot of research on Google in terms of finding the right suppliers for the components etc. In terms of colours though, it's just been trial and error. I mix and formulate the colours myself and that's where my creativity comes into play.

TWL: Since you are so skilled at coming up with distinctive colours, have you ever been interested in art, as in painting?

Natel: I wouldn't say art particularly, I love to cook, I am very creative in that area. I am definitely a very visual person. I know in my head what I want something to look like before I start mixing, so I just keep going until it looks right.

An example is Champagne Drippin,' it's like a gold glitter and I knew what I was looking for and went searching for it, couldn't find it so I came up with the colour myself. It  was the same thing with brown, I was looking for a nice nude brown with yellow undertones but couldn't find it, so I formulated my own shade.

TWL: Thank you so much for having a quick chat with us Natel, we really appreciate it. Where can our readers find you?

Natel: On our website >>> Tellemoi.co.uk and on Instagram- @tellemoi
